Source: Detroit Free PressNov.儲存 07--Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson is on the horizon, which is why Jordin Tootoo is fading from it.The Detroit Red Wings placed Tootoo on waivers through noon today, in hopes another NHL club would claim him and the nearly $3.8 million left on a contract that runs through 2014-15. If that doesn't happen, the Wings will assign Tootoo to the minors, which would yield $925,000 in salary cap relief. The Wings have 10 games or 30 days to do so, and may opt to wait until Ericsson can come off Long-Term Injured Reserve, which will be in time for the Nov. 15 game against Washington. Ericsson has been sidelined since suffering a shoulder injury Oct. 19 at Phoenix. He practiced Wednesday and afterwards said two things of note: That he'd be ready to play against the Capitals, and that the upside to staying at home while teammates trekked through Canada was more time with his newborn daughter. "I think I'm leading the diaper-changing league," Ericsson said.Tootoo won't be in the lineup tonight, when the Wings host the Dallas Stars. Neither will Jonathan Franzen, who is dealing both with an upper-body injury and sickness. The Wings have been trying to trade Tootoo, but haven't found any takers even in excmini storageange for a draft pick. The Wings have carried 15 forwards -- one more than ideal."We have too many right wingers," coach Mike Babcock said. "We're not giving him a fair opportunity. He's done nothing wrong. He's played hard, he's been a good teammate. All those things. If Toots can get himself a place to play, that he gets to play every night, that'd be fantastic, and good for him."Signed in 2012 to add an element of grit, Tootoo never really fit into the Wings' system. He played 42 games last season, contributing eight points, but was a healthy scratch all but one playoff game. He's scoreless and a minus-4 through eight appearances this season.Tootoo was not available for comment.Playing the Stars means a little more for the Wings these days, as beloved former assistant general manager Jim Nill took over the GM job there in April. Nill reminisced about his history with Pavel Datsyuk after watching Wings practice, saying, "I remember picking him up at the airport when he was 19. Great connections here. Great people. The city of Detroit is great, and it's been a big part of our life."Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Detroit Free Press Visit the Detroit Free Press at .freep.com Distributed by MCT Information Servicesself storage
