Source: The Tribune-Democrat, Johnstown, Pa.存倉Dec. 27--JOHNSTOWN -- Donation carts were packed high with holiday lights, shiny ornaments and gifts from Christmas -- and yesteryear -- inside the Salvation Army's thrift store stockroom Thursday in Richland Township.When Christmas Day is over and new gifts are put away, a lot of the older stuff -- and some new -- ends up in places like this one, Salvation Army store manager Peggy Artice said."Plastic trees. Garland and lights. We were just sorting through a box of that today," Artice said. "We start getting a lot of that after the holiday."Fortunately, a lot of people buy this stuff the whole way through the year," she said.Christmas typically brings toys, gift baskets and items such as mugs and dinnerware into the store at a time that is otherwise a down period for donations and foot traffic, she said."After Christmas -- especially January and February -- are slow periods for us," Artice said, noting that it's cold outside "and everybody is 儲存roke."In Johnstown, television sets filled the St. Vincent DePaul thrift store's electronics section, lining one wall of the Central Avenue shop."We've seen a surge in that kind of stuff lately," store manager Sally Hinton said. "People buy new TVs and they have to make room for them. Fortunately, they think of us."Clothes and some furniture have also been popular donations this year, she said.She described Christmastime as a solid time for donations, saying spring is typically the best because folks are often cleaning out their homes and eager to unload older items."People are very generous about giving here in Johnstown," Hinton said."Instead of saving it or having a yard sale, they think of us.
